Joint Monitoring visit at Kanchanpur

Skill Up! project organized one day joint monitoring tour in Krishmnapur Municipality of Kanchanpur district on 11th February 2021. There were 12 participants from different institutions & unit heads including Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Krishnapur Municipality.
Skill Up! Project is being implemented in the district since Jan 2020. Among the major activities in the district include Farmers’ Field School (FFS) in different wards of the municipality and short course (vocational) training for youths at the the green college- Krishnapur High Schol. The Skill Up! project has been training 370 farmers organised in to 16 farmer groups through FFS adopting SIFS approach and 90 youth were getting training on Vegetable Production, Poultry Production and Mushroom Cultivation at Shree Krishna School.
The monitoring team observed and interacted with the trainees of different short courses, lead farmers at ToT and the demonstration plot of Farmers’ Field School. The monitoring team had visited different sites with interest and acknowledged the working model of project. Mr Karna Bahadur Hamal- Mayor of Krishnapur municipality had spoken to the trainees of Mushroom cultivation that Municipality will support the trainees on different agro inputs (power tiller, sprayers, seeds etc.,) as per rules of municipality on 50% subsidy. He further added if trainees are interested, the municipality will also support on advanced training as well. The monitoring team acknowledged the mobile training approach and appreciated the model which could reach and support to the real farmers and recommended to replicate this model in other villages also to the possible extent.
Ms. Ramita Rana, Deputy Mayor of municipality said that municipality had formed an agriculture coordination committee including the members from municipality, cooperatives, and farmers, agro-vet suppliers to support and strengthen agriculture system of their municipality. Mr Jaya Singh Bista and Ishwor Kumar Thapa were members of that committee who were also participating in the monitoring visit and they showed interest on any kind of collaboration in future with project to support in marketing of agri products of Skill Up! participant farmers.
During the visit, the joint monitoring participants had encouraged the trainees and farmers for the better use of skill and knowledge that they are acquiring through training. Also they committed that the municipality is ready for any kind of support that farmers/ agro- entrepreneurs required to strengthen their business.
At last, the monitoring team had decided following:
- From the participants of the monitoring team will act as multi-stakeholder and advisory committee of the project.
- The team will work with municipality and other like-minded institutions to support and strengthen the farmers/ agro-entrepreneurs.
- The team will have regular and periodic monitoring visits.
- The team will support in marketing of agro-products of farmers.
