The Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Headquarters and Nepal team conducted a field observation visit to monitor the progress of Skill Up–trained youths who had successfully completed the 65-day plumbing training program. The visit aimed to assess how the training has contributed to the project’s core objectives of enhancing employability, promoting self-employment, and supporting sustainable livelihood development among young people.
During the visit, the team observed several graduates actively engaged in plumbing work at different sites. They interacted closely with the youths to understand their transition from training to employment, the challenges they face in the field, and the extent to which the skills gained are being applied in real-world situations. These interactions provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of the Skill Up approach in building practical, market-relevant skills.
A notable highlight of the visit was meeting a young graduate who has successfully transitioned from working as a daily wage laborer to operating as a plumbing contractor. This significant progress within a short period after completing the training reflects the transformative impact of the Skill Up program in fostering entrepreneurship and economic independence. The WHH team highly appreciated this achievement, recognizing it as a strong example of how targeted technical training, combined with supportive interventions, can enable youth to upgrade their skills, increase their income, and establish themselves as service providers in the local market.
